In Antalya, the ancient city of Xanthos, once the capital of Lycia, dates back to 3000 BCE and holds a place on the UNESCO World Heritage List alongside Letoon. Patara, another key Lycian city, offers a glimpse into the past with its impressive theatre and monumental Entrance Gate.
Simena, accessible only by sea, offers breathtaking views of Kekova Island’s underwater city. Myra, located in Demre, is known for its well-preserved Roman theatre and rock-cut tombs, as well as the Church of St. Nicholas, the inspiration for Santa Claus.
Phaselis, an ancient port city founded by Rhodians in the 7th century BCE, features three natural harbors and a wealth of history. Olympos, once a member of the Lycian League, is now part of a National Park and is famed for its stunning natural setting.
Termessos, perched on a steep hillside east of Antalya, is one of the best-preserved ancient cities in Türkiye and is renowned for being one of the few places Alexander the Great could not conquer. Perge, another significant city of Pamphylia, displays artifacts from its rich past.
Aspendos, near Serik, boasts one of the best-preserved Roman theatres in the world, still used for performances today. Side, once a major port city, is famous for its theatre and ancient name meaning “pomegranate.”
